SONG
FROM ;FLESH此A GEOGORIAN ODE;
EBB on with me across the sunset tide And float beyond the waters of
the world察The light of evening slipping from my side察Thy softened voice
in waves of silence furled。
Flow on into the flaming morning wine察Drowning the land in color。
Then on high Rise in thy candid innocence and shine Like to a poplar
straight against the sky。

SOLDIER and singer of Erin察 What may I fashion for thee拭 What
garland of words or of flowers拭Singer of sunlight and showers察The wind
on the lea察
Of clouds察and the houses of Erin察Wee cabins察white on the plain察And
bright with the colours of even察 Beauty of earth and of heaven falls
Outspread beyond Slane night through let my mind be still察
Slane察 where the Easter of Patrick Flamed on the night of the Gael察
Guard both the honor and story Of him who has died for the glory That
crowns Innisfail。
Soldier of right and of freedom察I offer thee song and hot tears。 With

EVENSONG
A SHEPHERD piping察herald of the Night Who comes with Silence up
the coloured vale察Treading low gently察clad in greyish white察Poignantly
piping察sound your reedy wail For Day departed moves in funeral train
Tended by Twilight and察 in deepest rose察 The splendid Sunset melts
beneath the main While sweet the Sea´wind with cool softness blows。 As
when a mother gathers to her breast The child who frets for Dad's
remembered smart察 Now Light fades quickly in the ashen west察 And
Night´Peace falls across my troubled heart。 Flutes察for the night through
let my mind be still察And God keep safe with Him my stubborn will

THE PROPHET
ALL day long he kept the sheep此Far and early察from the crowd察On
the hills from steep to steep察 Where the silence cried aloud察 And the
shadow of the cloud Wrapt him in a noonday sleep。
Where he dipped the water's cool察Filling boyish hands from thence察
Something breathed across the pool Stir of sweet enlightenments察And he
drank察with thirsty sense察Till his heart was brimmed and full。
Still察 the hovering Voice unshed察And the Vision unbeheld察And the
mute sky overhead察And his longing察still withheld Even when the two
tears welled察Salt察upon that lonely bread。
Vaguely blessed in the leaves察 Dim´companioned in the sun察 Eager
mornings察wistful eyes察Very hunger drew him on察And To´morrow ever
shone With the glow the sunset weaves。
Even so察 to that young heart察Words and hands and Men were dear察
And the stir of lane and mart After daylong vigil here。 Sunset called察and
he drew near察Still to find his path apart。
When the Bell察with gentle tongue察Called the herd´bells home again察
Through the purple shades he swung察 Down the mountain察 through the
glen察Towards the sound of fellow´men察 Even from the light that clung。
Dimly too察as cloud on cloud察Came that silent flock of his此Thronging
whiteness察 in a crowd察After homing twos and threes察 With the longing
memories Of all white things dreamed and vowed。
Through the fragrances察alone察By the sudden´silent brook察 From the
open world unknown察To the close of speech and book察There to find the
foreign look In the faces of his own。
Sharing was beyond his skill察Shyly yet察he made essay此Sought to dip察
and share察 and fill Heart's´desire察 from day to day。 But their eyes察 some
foreign way察Looked at him察and he was still。
Last察he reached his arms to sleep察Where the Vision waited察dim察Still
beyond some deep´on´deep。
And the darkness folded him察 Eager heart and weary limb。 All day
long察he kept the sheep。

HARVEST´MOON此1914
OVER the twilight field察The overflowing field察Over the glimmering
field察And bleeding furrows with their sodden yield Of sheaves that still
did writhe察After the scythe察The teeming field and darkly overstrewn With
all the garnered fulness of that noon Two looked upon each other。 One
was a Woman men called their mother察And one察the Harvest´Moon。
And one察the Harvest´Moon察Who stood察who gazed On those unquiet
gleanings where they bled察 Till the lone Woman said此 But we were
crazed 。 。 。 We should laugh now together察 I and you察We two。 You察 for
your dreaming it was worth A star's while to look on and light the Earth察
And I察forever telling to my mind察Glory it was察and gladness察to give birth
To humankind Yes察I察that ever thought it not amiss To give the breath to
men察For men to slay again此Lording it over anguish but to give My life
that men might live For this。 You will be laughing now察 remembering I
called you once Dead World察and barren thing察
Yes察so we named you then察You察far more wise Than to give life to
men。;
Over the field察that there Gave back the skies A shattered upward stare
〃From blank white eyes察Striving awhile察through many a bleeding dune
Of throbbing clay察 but dumb and quiet soon察 She looked察 and went her
way The Harvest´Moon。

THE DARK此A DREAM
;HORSEMAN察 springing from the dark察 Horseman察 flying wild and
free察Tell me what shall be thy road Whither speedest far from me拭─
;From the dark into the light察 From the small unto the great察 From
the valleys dark I ride O'er the hills to conquer fate ─
;Take me with thee察horseman mine Let me madly rode with thee ─
As he turned I met his eyes察My own soul looked back at me
